Armani Prive Haute Couture Fall 2013 Brings Glamour to the Catwalk

With their slinky trousers, delicate slip dresses and wavy cropped hairdos, the models at this season’s Armani Prive Haute Couture show were pure Old Hollywood glamour. The color palette was kept light – nude being the reigning color – and a number of high shine fabrics were used to underscore the sensual and feminine nature of the designer’s streamlined collection. The skillfully embroidered flesh colored eveningwear pieces, which included a number of sheer paneled floor length gowns that brought a younger edge to the collection, were particularly remarkable.

Was the Hair at Chanel Couture Inspired by Kid ’n Play?

At the Chanel couture show, there were piles of rubble, Rihanna in an ankle-length cardigan, and models with flattops. The boxy, gravity-defying do was born in the fifties (by way of the crew cut) and exaggerated in the eighties by Will Smith (from the Fresh Prince years), Bobby Brown, and Christopher Reid (one half of Kid ’n Play). Reid was a notable adopter of the style, so maybe hairstylist Sam McKnight was inspired by him? Or, since the dos had ponytails, perhaps they were modeled after Lagerfeld's signature locks? Zoom on Couture: Valentino, Margiela, and More

Couture may only be a brief few days but each spectacular show is filled with intricate details begging for a second glance. Today at Valentino, models resembled modern-day Renaissance princesses, clad in elaborate lace and fur-trimmed gowns, herringbone tweed cloaks, and sumptuous embroidered silks and jacquards. The closing gown combined rich wine velvet with a skirt covered in all manners of flora and fauna. Over at Maison Martin Margiela, the theme was elegant kitsch; masks came in an array of materials, including one over-the-top creation covered in flowers that merged seamlessly to form a breastplate of sorts

It Takes Five People and Twenty Layers of Butt Makeup to Ready Each Victoria’s Secret Model for the Show

As if we need to write this down for you: The Victoria's Secret fashion show airs tonight on CBS. And though the models make it look fun and flirty and sexy and easy, it is grueling work that even the most professional of models have difficulty with. Each girl spends three to five hours in hair and makeup before the show. Each girl gets five hair and makeup people to ready her for her great walk. At least an hour, probably longer, is spent on body makeup. Selita Ebanks says it's "all about creating the illusion of this amazing body on the runway":

Yesterday in Paris, the Vogue Japan editor-at-large dressed up in an over-the-top yellow-green Altuzarraspring 2013 dress bedazzled with sparkling floral embellishments, gold foil, and Muppet-like fringe to both the Giorgio Armani Prive show and Lancome party. To finish the look, Dello Russo encased her legs in brown knee-high Gianvito Rossi for Altuzarra sandals and strapped on gold bracelets to her forearms. In short, she looked like a super-tanned, alterna-version of the fairy Tinker Bell. Or like a mossy carpet worth a fortune.

Even for July, it's been incredibly hot across the country, especially if you live on the West Coast. While you're probably spending most of your time hiding in the air conditioning, you still have to go outside at some point probably. Ladies, Men Hate Your Wedges

Earlier today, The Huffington Post posted the results of a poll that asked 2,103 men what they considered to be the "least attractive shoe trend." The wedge shoe, with a 71 top disapproval rate, ranked highest. It's followed by Uggs (67 percent), Crocs (63 percent), platforms, flip flops, and other foot-protectors that live on with no shame in this list. But to add an extra level of complication, sneakers took the final spot on the list, with a quarter of men considering them unattractive. So, uh, question: In which category did the sneaker wedges fall?

40 Looks We Want From the Spring 2014 Menswear Shows

Street style during the menswear shows tends to bring out the best in the dapper male attendees, but it's the women who stand out. While some (like Anna Dello Russo and Caroline Issa) tend to keep their looks feminine, many get into the boy-meets-girl spirit with suits, ties, and brogues. Esther Quek, group fashion director for The Rake, takes that styling cue literally, often showing up for menswear shows in perfectly tailored three-piece suits complete with vest, tie, and pocket square. And while menswear is notorious for the ridiculous, many of this season's pieces were on-trend, handsome, and highly covetable — for women. Head-to-toe florals were big at Alexander McQueen, Comme Des Garçons, and 3.1 Phillip Lim. Mixed prints were also everywhere (in dot, leopard, tie-dye, and stripe forms) helping the models at Dries Van Noten, Dolce & Gabbana, and Lanvin look perfectly mismatched. Meanwhile Valentino and Raf Simons both showed beautiful, color-blocked jackets with sleek silhouettes that would look fantastic thrown over a black dress and finished with a pair of heels.
Other times it's an entire outfit that inspires lust, like the relaxed navy leather trousers at Hermès worn with a crinkled silk tee or Acne's fitted checkered sweater and slouchy trouser combo. Other times it's individual pieces, like Saint Laurent's form-fitting, sparkly leopard tuxedo jacket, which would look perfect on Kate Moss, or Dolce & Gabbana's oversized shimmery tweed top, just asking to be worn with jeans and stilettos. For all of the talk about "borrowing from the boys" style, spring 2014 menswear transcends gender lines by incorporating cuts, patterns, and colors into the pieces that suggest these pieces shouldn't be borrowed, rather stolen. Chanel Couture: Karl’s ‘Stocking Shoes,’ and Other Shiny Solutions to Our Dirty World

Today's Chanel couture show, titled "The Old World and the New World," was all about contrasting the grimy, dilapidated present with a gleaming future full of impeccable models. Guests sat in creaky wooden chairs that were painted to look dusty; the effect was so realistic that publicists had to reassure guests like Rihanna and Kristen Stewart that it was indeed safe to park their Chanel-clad butts on them. Meanwhile, the floor of the Grand Palais was strewn with dirt and rubble, and the windows were made to appear broken. Then, when the show began, curtains parted to reveal a gleaming, Oz-type city on a raised stage.
