Tips from Celeb Hair Stylist Lee Rittiner

Celebrity hairstylist Lee Rittiner wants you to get the most out of your cut.
We chatted with Lee about which vitamins he suggests, how to make your pricey cut last, and what hair products aren’t all they’re cracked up to be.
A lot of our readers spend a hefty amount on hair cuts, is there any way to maintain an expensive cut? Or make an expensive cut last?
A great haircut should always last at least 8-12 weeks. If you feel like it's not, then get a new stylist, or allow them to do a bit more cutting than just a trim. Hair grows 1/4inch a month at least and a proper cut should get you through a season. The right styling tools like a curling wand and blow dryer will always help keep a shape. I stress the wand--not a curling iron. Style is key so try to master a few looks to lengthen your salon visits.
What’s the best way to protect from split ends?
Best way to protect your hair from split ends is to get more frequent hair trims. See your stylist every 8 weeks, not twice a year. Also wash your hair less, three times a week max. Use less heat and a thermal protectant, my favorites are Oribe and Aquage sprays.
What’s a common mistake you see clients making?
Most common mistake I see with women is lack of haircuts. They want to grow their hair out so they don't cut it, but they wait so long when they come in their hair is so long and distressed it needs to be cut off. The more frequent your trims, the less hair needs to be cut and also the healthier your hair will be!
What hair trend are you tired of seeing?
The most common hair trend I'm tired of seeing is the Zooey Deschanel bang. First off, it doesn't work for everyone, secondly it's not cute. The bang is just way too heavy. I love bangs, but I prefer cute and natural. Sometimes blunt and heavy bangs work, but her bangs take too much hair to achieve and the grow out will be regretted!
Tell us about how to get bombshell hair like Chrissy Tiegen's
Chrissy Teigen  has great hair because she gets frequent trims, eats healthy, takes vitamins and uses the best products. Diet and hair care is key to having heathy hair. I recommend all my clients take Biotin and Omega 3 vitamins!
What beauty product would you say is overrated and why?
I would say that Kerastase is the most overrated product on the market! It's way overpriced and it saturates your hair in filth. It also is way too high on the carcinogenic scale and is filled with toxins.
